Obama on Abortion:
In 1997, Obama voted against SB 230, which would have turned doctors into felons by banning so-called partial-birth abortion, & against a 2000 bill banning state funding. Although these bills included an exception to save the life of the mother, they didn’t include anything about abortions necessary to protect the health of the mother. The legislation defined a fetus as a person, & could have criminalized virtually all abortion.
Obama was given 2 choices, both of which were not great choices. I probably would have voted the same way he did, I think the health of the mother should be the first priority.

Obama on Taxes:
McCain wants to lower taxes for every US citizen, YAY!!! Well how the hell is he supposed to pay for the 10 billion dollar a month spending in Iraq if taxes are lowered? Who will be getting the short end of the stick then?
Obama is raising taxes for and only for people and families who make more than $250K a year. Being a Democrat, he wants to take a little from the rich and let that money trickle down to the rest of us which will boost the economy. He is fighting for the middle and lower class. Did you know that the middle class consists of families making up to $250K a year? How many people making $250K a year do you consider middle class? seriously ….

Obama on the War:

Obama on our Energy Crisis:
Obama wants to help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future. Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined. Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars — cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon — on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America. Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025. Implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050.

The Generation of US

Our generation is slowly inheriting this country and as it is handed over to us, the country is going more and more into decline, and into recession. We are inheriting unfathomable debt, economic deterioration, military conflict, and diseases such as diabetes and cancer.

Some say we are an uneducated generation that does not hold to and value the same theories of politics as previous generations.

This is partially true, we do not value the traditional views of previous generations because we are more technologically advanced, politically engaged, and environmentally friendly than previous generations. We know what needs to be done, what changes need to be made, we are looking to the future rather than the now. Instant gratification is what put this country into the state it is currently in. The dependence on fossil fuels is coming to a halt and other, more efficient, ways of energy are being produced.

The stock market is shaky, the housing market is in depression, the value of the dollar has plummeted. Our country is injured, and like any wound it takes time to heal, but once it is healed it will be tougher and stronger than before. It is time for a progressive change in this country, there is no room for conservative views.

It is up to the Generation of Us to restore this nation. We need to stand up for what we believe in and we need to be well educated on what is going on in our own country, because we will be the ones to suffer the consequences when it is given to us on a silver platter.

Falling Stars??

Six weeks ago every sports writer and expert predicted the Cowboys to go to the Super Bowl and Bring back the glory years of Landry and the Big 3. On paper we had it all, A talented quarterback, a powerful defense, a pair of the best running backs in the game, you name it.

Now, after a painful lose in overtime, we are now 4-2 in what is without a doubt the toughest conference in the NFL. Not too shabby of a record, only in the last two weeks we have an injured Romo who is out for 4 weeks with a broken finger, Jason Witten with a shoulder injury, Julius Jones with a hamstring injury, andTerrance Newman with a hernia.

Oh, and Adam Jones’ antics just got him suspended indefinitely.

Even before the injuries we did not look like a caliber team–the last three games have been sloppy (don’t even get me started on Sunday’s game). A good team maybe, but not one that can take home a 6th Lombardi trophy and become the winningest team in NFL history.

Lets hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

“Beverly Hills Chi-CRAP-hua”

Let me just start by saying that this is more of an “experience” than a movie review, to say the least…

When i saw the horrible trailers for this movie i thought surely i had seen the worst this movie has to offer…

When i got into the theater and sat down, i saw a bunch of children around me instantly realized that this is a kids movie and i should just leave and not pick on this movie. The only time i felt a little safe was when the darkness filled the room just before the featured film began, this way no one could see me. When it told me to shut off my cellular device i thought they must be joking, i knew what i was getting into. What about when i got struck with an unforgivable generic dog joke and i had to be rushed to the hospital?

Let me tell you they do ALL the generic dog joke lines … ALL of them, including the nugget of joy-shit-gem favorite; “talk to the paw”

This “movie” is about some bitch (it’s true, the main character is a female dog…and a spoiled bitch)
after that i didn’t really don’t know what was going on, it’s just a series of endless bad jokes and horrible acting.

there is one thing that deeply concerned me, there is a scene where the the main dog jumps in a fountain and while getting out, it does the whole slow motion-sex appeal type of scene when they shake off water from their body to grab attention of the viewer. This may work with PEOPLE, but NOT dogs!! i know they were TRYING to be funny like everything else about this film but why the FUCK was this in a kids movie? Beastailitly should be enjoyed at home NOT in a public place or in a kids movie.

You know, I’m convinced that this script was written by actual dogs.

Garden State (2004)

What I admire about ‘Garden State’ more than anything is the quirky little moments. There are so many of them, from the faucets that go off one by one, children crossing the street like baby ducklings, dogs humping, even the knight stomping through the room with a bowl of cereal. It’s pretty unconventional that so many of these moments come and go one by one throughout the entire movie, but given the main character’s catatonic state it becomes a necessity.

Andrew Largeman is an oblivious actor living in L.A. who is known for playing a mentally challenged quarterback on a made for TV movie. How oblivious? In one scene he arrives at work to see the spigot from a gas pump still in his gas tank. He is in exile from everything around him–his room is completely white and his medicine cabinet is full of prescribed meds. That says a lot about his state of mind. Then one day he gets a call from his father from New Jersey telling him his mother has passed away (she drowned in the tub). Rushing to fly home he forgets his medication and this is where his metamorphosis beings.

He meets up with his old friends from high school who are also gravediggers (“We’ll call you after we bury you mom”). The gravedigger Mark is a stoner who plans on living off of ‘Desert Storm Trading Cards,’ and another who got rich off of silent Velcro. They are the kind of quirky friends who get older but never change. Soon serendipity hits and he meets Sam (The beautiful Natalie Portman) who is the type of girl you wish God would bring to you if he loved you enough. She is sarcastic but has a sweet laugh that just makes you take it serious.

Both Mark and Sam want Andrew to open his eyes but his father would rather have them shut. Not because he is a bad man, but because he thinks he knows what’s best for his son better than he does. It was he who put Andrew on medication and why his own son hasn’t been home in nine years. Andrew was responsible for his mother’s handicap but both men see it different (the father thinks he was acting out, Andrew was just the victim of fate).

I heard about ‘Garden State’ through word of mouth and was amused right from the start. A lot of people have this as their personal favorite (my friend has this in his top five of all time). It’s not high on my list but not because I hate it; I’ve just seen a lot of better movies. I was always turned off by the ending because it was too easy to end like that. Is that too harsh? It probably is. After all, everyone deserves a happy ending. But ending aside this is a brilliant triumphant film for Braff who has a good eye and good ears too (the soundtrack is amazing). You see this and can tell he has potential to be a great filmmaker.

A great film works when you have a character that you sympathize with and want to succeed. All through the film everyone is trying to get him to look around. Maybe that’s why there are so many quirky moments in this film. We just want Andrew to stop and open his eyes.

Kingdom of Heaven: The Director’s Cut

It’s a shame there hasn’t been an epic film made since Coppola made ‘Apocalypse Now.’ (Although one can make the arguement for Lord of The Rings). Nowadays directors put their faith in computer effects and banal screenwriting–and who can blame them? We want to see shit blow up. I think the only director who even comes close to the likes of Coppola or the great David Lean is Ridley Scott. Now he can make a grand film, and has from ‘Blade Runner’ all the way to ‘Gladiator.’ True, those movies do not hold a candle to Lean’s ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ or ‘The Bridge on The River Kwai,’ but things are different now. We have computers which is more cost affective than hundreds of extras and shoots that don’t take four years to make. Given those terms, epic filmmaking is not what it use to be but, when done right, we can still be awed.

That being said Ridley Scott is a true filmmaker. He’s like Michael Bay, but smarter and more visually poetic with his filmmaking. Don’t believe me? Go rent ‘Alien,’ ‘Blade Runner,’ Gladiator,’ and ‘Black Hawk Down.’ But his best film to date is his director’s cut of, ‘Kingdom of Heaven,’ an epicesque film about the Crusades and the fight for the holy land.

It was quite a gutsy thing to make considering all that has been going on over the last seven years, so many things are taboo. But Ridley is not interested in Religion so much, but how people confuse their faith with blind ambition.

That’s not how it is for slave Bailan (Orando Bloom). He is a blacksmith who has just lost his wife and child. He is greeted by a group of Crusaders, led by Godfrey (Liam Neeson) who claims that he is Bailan’s real father and wants him to go to Jerusalem with him.

Jerusalem is in the midst of Chaos; it’s being controlled by the Christians led by the leper-striken king Baldwin (Edward Norton with a mask). Baldwin tries to coexist with the Muslims but is constantly being underminded by the extremists who would rather do away with them. After all, it’s Jesus’ kingdom, not theres. The muslims do not see it that way, particulary Saladin, the great muslim leader who conquered Jerusalem.

The two sides certainly fight a lot and Ridley presents us breathtaking shots of cavalry charging along the Arabic horizon and close-up shots of swordfighting reminiscent of ‘Braveheart.’ The most amazing shot is the light of the fireballs coming down on Jerusalem as the sun sets. It makes you wonder what it would have really looked like (probably scary as hell).

But this film is not about religion, surprisingly. It’s about how living with virture and respectful to others is more important than what city you conquer in the name of God. When Bailan tells a priest he has lost his religion, the priest says the most thoughtful piece of advice I have heard. “What God truly desires is what’s here and here,” pointing to his head and his heart.

Baldwin knows it, even Saladin knows it. The men are strikingly similar in that they are both faithful to their religion but do not let it cloud their judgement. When a tribal leader criticizes Saladin for not taking a city he reminds the leader that while God may know the outcome of the battle, it also depends on being prepared.

In the end, we see that if there were more people like Bailan, Baldwin and Saladin, maybe we woudn’t have so many problems nowadays.
